Gospel Oriented Family, Oct. 14, 2013

Mamma sita,   What's up?!? Life is good in the Mesa AZ. My new area is pretty sweet and my companion is hilarious haha. Elder Smith is quite the goof ball. He kinda has ADD so sometimes it is hard for him to focus and he notices the most random things. But it has been fun. The new area is great, except we still have no investigators. We have been working our tails off to find people though, and we've really been focusing on trying to work through the members. We've seen some miracles through our efforts because when we stay busy and obedient, the Lord always provides for us. Two days ago we met 2 potential investigators, one of them at a garage sale and the other at a bad address. It is so neat-o to see how the Lord places people into our paths.   And guess what? I made instagram! Haha I guess Elder Smith and I have a picture on instagram because we had a family night with this awesome family the Millers last week. They have the cutest and funniest girls. We had a ...

General Conference Weekend, Oct. 7, 2013

Hey Mamma! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! 26th Anniversary huh? Congrats!!! Dad better treat you well and buy you some flowers or some chocolate or things that women like. And that is cool to hear about the changes around the house and that the fam all got together to watch conference. Sweetness!!! So the news is in. Last week I WAS transferred, and I am now white-washing a new area and training a new missionary. White washing is where they take 2 elders into a new area that neither of them have been in yet. Our first day in the area was crazy cause we didn't even know how to get anywhere!!! Haha but it has been a lot of fun and a lot of work. I've enjoyed white washing because it really puts you out of your comfort zone and makes you work twice as hard to succeed. It is these experiences where you determine the kind of missionary you will be. We cover 2 wards now, one of which is SUPER TINY (geographically compared to Florence)! The whole ward is comprised of 5 roads haha. But ...

Investigators, Sept. 30, 2013

Hey Mamma!  Noelle. What a smarty pants. Getting straight A's and all that jazz. I think she should definitely go for the sterling scholar. She is smart and talented enough to do it. Is Noelle still taking piano from Angela Toone? Or did they move? And is Noelle still teaching piano? How is that going? And that is sweet that your room is getting all fancy. The McCormicks know how to decorate, that's for sure. Anywho, my week has been..... Fun. We had an excellent dinner with this member family the Cunninghams and with their non-member friend Renee. We talked about temples and how families can be together forever. I love the Plan of Salvation. It is so legit. The spirit testified so strongly and I love when members attend lessons and can add their testimonies. On Friday we had another awesome lesson with my FAVORITE investigators, Renee & Craig. They are progressing so greatly and they know it is true, they are just strongly to accept to change for the better. We...

Study the Bible, Sept. 23, 2013

Oh Mamma, Hey! Yes, I'm always studying the Bible. Especially New Testament scripture. If you don't know the Bible, you don't know the Gospel. Our main book of doctrine IS the Bible. Very few people know that. So study it! And yeah! I got the Shutterfly photo album. It was awesome! Connor is such a stud. I'm so happy for him. This week we've had plenty of funny and spiritual experiences. We've been trying to work with the members more and have them attend more lessons with us. It's a continual process but we are getting there. We met this pathological liar named Rick the other day. Haha he is so funny. Apparently he is a religious theologian, professional bull rider, culinary cook, ex-marine, experienced truck driver, owns a private business, owns a private beach in California, and currently works as the maintenance man at our apartments. Hahahaha he makes my day. This week we've really been trying to help a few of our investigators to quit s...

Smoking is Disgusting! Sept. 16, 2013

Image
Mamma Mia!!! And family, Yes, I have been taking pictures with my camera. But these computers only allow us to send one picture per email. It is kind of annoying. But I will try to send one every week. And my week was good! I study pretty much every day from the Book of Mormon and the New Testament. I like to study by topic though. My understanding of the scriptures has increased so much while I've been out here.  This week has been good but a little bit frustrating. What it all comes down to is............. SMOKING IS DISGUSTING AND THE WORST HABIT EVER!!!! Haha sorry I had to get that off my chest. I would say 85% of our investigators struggle with smoking. It is terrible. I am so sick of the smell of smoke. Thank heavens that I have never smoked a cigarette. And thank you Mom and Dad for never smoking either. It is nasty stuff. But, in good news, we are teaching this lady Christine who has been living with her grandmother in the ward for a couple of months now. Chris...

Meeting with Elder Neil L. Anderson, September 9, 2013

Yo Mamma! And Family! HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOELLE!!!!! Wow. 17 years old. She is so old. For real. Sounds like she had a purrty fun birthday though. When is homecoming? Does she have a dress yet? And haha, 1D mania. Remember Noelle and Mom, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me", that includes Harry Styles and the boys of one direction. Haha maybe I'll watch the one direction movie when i get back in 2. And yo! BYU beat Texas?!?! That is SWEET! Was that their first game this year? How is the team looking?  As for the questions, it has been raining all day today and the weather is gradually getting cooler. It is still mostly hot and dry though. And our ward has the biggest ward boundaries in the WHOLE mission, so yes we have a car. But we also bike a lot, especially in downtown Florence cause that's where we live. But let's see.... This last week we had A TON of meetings. We had a zone conference on Wednesday, and on Saturday we had a special meeting with ...

A Golden Couple and 2 Baptisms, September 2, 2013

Familia!!! Hey I will have to cut this letter a little short because it is Labor Day and the library is closed, so we've been running around trying to find a member's house to email at. I love you guys!! I'm so happy that Noelle cleaned her bathroom! Woo Hoo! And she's going to prom and shopping for dresses!! That's what I like to hear! Atta girl!!! And she is gonna be in Special Needs Mutual?!? Yes!!! Look for my buddy Nathan!! say hi to him for me!! I miss him. He's my homie. This last week has been great. We got this GOLDEN couple that referred themselves to meet with the missionaries. They have been struggling financially, emotionally, and spiritually, and they know that if they put God first in their lives everything else will fall into place. We have taught them twice, and they are committed to be baptized in about 3 weeks. They are so humble, awesome, and ready. I love when the Lord provides for us when we do all we can to be worthy representative...

The Spirit of Peace, August 26, 2013

Mamma Mia!!! And family!!! I didn't get your email last week, but I got your email this week and your letter/pictures that you sent. I love the pictures!!! Everybody looks so dashing and gorgeous!!! haha. And nah, don't worry about the emails. I get most of them.  Yep, I write Elder Michael Nielsen about every week. I love him. And that is exciting that school has started!!! Woo hoo!! Noelle is growing up way to fast. And in Arizona weather is weird. We pretty much get crazy lightening storms here every night, but only about 3 times has it rained. But the sunsets here are way pretty. But anyways. This week has been crazy busy and fun. My new comp's name is Elder Bailey, he's a white kid from Hawaii but he is way cool. Very chill, hard working, and goal-oriented. I'm doing my best to train him, though I am still new out here too. But we now just cover one ward, Florence 1st Ward, which has opened up a lot of excellent opportunities.  On Thursday we...

Saved by Grace and Goodbye Elder Glaus! August 19, 2013

Mamma Mia and Familia, Wass up?!? How are you all?!? Is Noelle ready for school to start? Mom, what schools are you teaching at this year? Has Dad published any books yet? This last week I've had some real neat-o experiences. And funny experiences. On Thursday we were talking to this crazy lady, Renae, on her porch. Renae used to be a drug dealer, homosexual, and was in prison in Alabama until she "saw Jesus and was saved". Haha it is a weird concept that people have that being "saved" is in the past tense rather than the present. They believe that once we accept Jesus, we are good to go and pretty much live a Hakuna Matata lifestyle. They believe our actions don't matter and that grace is all we need. But instead of being "saved by grace," we really should be "changed by grace". If we really believe in and want to follow Jesus Christ, each day we should be diligently working to become better people and become more Christ-like. Th...

Excuses Are Like Armpits, August 12, 2013

Momma, I am fantastic. Don't you worry. And yes, I eat breakfast every day haha. I usually toast 2 bagels with cream cheese and peanut butter. And I have oatmeal as well. It's pretty easy to survive in the states. I feel spoiled sometimes compared to missionaries in foreign countries. And that's weird that we have 3 Ukrainian men living at our house. What are their names? But this last week was pretty good. It has been a little frustrating though because people simply don't understand why attending church every Sunday is so important. We have some excellent investigators, but no matter how many times we drill into their heads the importance of church, they NEVER GO. I have decided that for the rest of my life that I will never make excuses like "i'm too tired" or "I'm too busy". As a wise man once said, excuses are like armpits- everyone has them and they stink. :) But this last week we did have two investigators decide to be bapt...

7 Baptisms! July 15, 2013

Momma!!!! And Family!!! Sweet picture. Havasupai looks way fun. Noelle looks way to old and mature in that picture!! stop growing up Noelle!!! Florence is sweet. So many cool experiences. I'm running low on time though, but i'll hurry. Every day we wake up at 630, and sometimes we work out for 30 minutes. we have personal study from 8 to 9 and then companionship study from 9 to 10. then we have training hour and then lunch and then we head out and do work. It is always super hot here. We have a lightning storm here like every other night though. It is pretty insane.  So Chad and Kaylee got married? That's awesome!! Tell them congrats for me. Yes, I did get the package with the face wash and family picture. But no, I haven't gotten Connor and Melinda's card yet. Did you send it to the Sierrita address? Good to hear that Grandpa is hanging in there. Heavens I hope he gets better. I wanna see him after my mission. I love him lots.  Sounds lik...

Re: Imagine You Are Opening a Howler, July 1, 2013

Hahahahahaha Mom you make me laugh. Sorry, I just thought a short email was all i needed to send. There is too much good stuff to write!! But I'll do my best.  So my companion is Elder Glaus from Tampa Bay, Florida. He is a boss. We call him Gloss boss. His family has 11 kids, he went to BYU Idaho for a year, and he loves basketball and T-Swift (just like me ;) ). He's a really good kid and a good missionary. He works hard, is friendly to everyone, and loves people. I couldn't of ask for anyone better! haha. We live in an area called Copper Basin in a 3 bedroom house with Elder Carroll (from Hawaii) and Elder Prestwich (from Rigby, Idaho). It is a pretty nice house, but you can tell that many missionaries have lived in it haha. I'm a OCD neat freak, so i keep my stuff clean, and the other Elders are all pretty clean too. Elder Glaus and I are actually moving out today though because we are moving to downtown Florence. Our area is now officially in the Gilbert AZ...

Week 2, June 14, 2013

Momma! Es Familia!! Yes, I have received all of your emails. Don't sweat it. Glad to hear everything is going well. My P day is on Friday (today), so that's when I get to email. Yup, I got the letter from Chloe Murphy, but not a letter from Jake Ostler. though Jake did send me an email. And yup, I leave on Tuesday, June 18th. I think our flight leaves at about 8 in the morning, so I'll probably get to call you around 7 am or something. If any of you are awake. So wake up!!! Haha. Our flight should only take about 45 minutes to an hour to get there though. I bought a phone card so I'll get to call you. I probably won't talk for too long, cause i don't got much to say. Except that I love it here and I'm excited to get out there!!! Sounds like the Noelle is partying it up. Keep her busy. And that sounds pretty boss for Connor and Melinda. I hope they choose where they are gonna go!! And hey, if you could send me their wedding anouncement in ...

The First Email, June 7, 2013

Hole me familia!!!!!! COMO ESTAS?!?!?! Haha I'm not even learning Spanish but I thought that'd be a nice way to start off the message. But hey, how's home? how's the end of school Noelle? you gonna get a summer job? did Melinda and Connor decide where they are going for their honeymoon yet? Is Cam making cash money up the heezy? I love you all and miss you already! Two days have passed so far. and Oh. My. Goodness. This is ridiculous. When I first arrived here I was told to go here, then there, follow this guy, go get this, write your name here, go this way, and finally follow this dood. It was crazy. I felt like a puppy dog on a leash. And then...they throw you right into the chaotic and super super busy schedule. Work, work, and more work. We met up with our district, which has 3 elder companionships and 3 sister companionships. My companion is Elder Sant, from Spokane Washington. he went to two years at LDSBC and is a very.....well, nerdy guy. He has p...
